John Rogers Anderson, CMM, CD (born 1941 in Trail, British Columbia) is a Canadian retired Admiral and civil servant.
Anderson was born in British Columbia and attended University of British Columbia; he graduated with a BSc and attended a Long Operations Officers course. He joined the Navy in 1963 and worked his way up the ranks. He was successively Commanding Officer of HMCS Restigouche, Commander of the First Canadian Destroyer Squadron, Chief of Staff at the National Defence Headquarters, Director-General of Maritime Doctrine and Operations, Head of the Canadian Nuclear Submarine Acquisition Project and Chief of Maritime Doctrine and Operations.
In the early 1980s he commanded the Naval Officers' Training Centre at CFB Esquimalt, Esquimalt, British Columbia.
In 1993, Admiral Anderson became Chief of Defence Staff of the Canadian Forces.
In 1994, he was appointed Canada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Brussels, Belgium.
In 1989, he was made a Commander of the Order of Military Merit.
